Hello and welcome.

My name is Lettie and I’m proud to be the founder of The Little Sleep Company

I am delighted to be able to offer my experience, knowledge and compassion for nurturing families to help resolve sleep and behavioural difficulties for their children. 

When you work with me you will receive exceptional personalised service and 100% support, this, combined with my passion for preventing future tears and fears for your child will have your little ones well rested, confident, happy, calm and cooperating in no time!

I do this by supporting your family using a very unique method that involves a fun and integrated approach to help you solve your child’s sleep and behavioural difficulties with a strong emphasis on their emotional wellbeing.

Children and their sleep habits can often be a highly controversial and an emotionally charged topic. Especially with so many different opinions, advice and techniques available!

A trial and error basis to find solutions to sleep and behaviour problems can quickly become an exhausting process for already tired parents! Let me take the guesswork out of the equation for you.

What I offer is practical help - right now. 

My wish for you is to start to feel excited and encouraged about a new way forward by offering continuous, non-judgmental support and by using a combination of the most loving, holistic and successful methods available. 

Step by step we’ll remove the barriers that have been hindering sound sleep for your child by empowering you with the tools and confidence to implement the changes towards healthy, happy and harmonious sleep at your house.

When working with children there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ and no ‘magic cure’. It takes consistency and commitment to make permanent changes. Together we will make this happen.

We’ll work gently and carefully to help your child gain trust and a sense of pride throughout the process, by supporting their emotional wellbeing and allowing them to feel comforted and reassured every step of the way.

Not only does sleep improve but also eating battles, cooperation battles and day-to-day behavioural battles disappear. You will have a new way to deal with not just tears but tantrums, clinginess, whining, whinging, grizzling and other behavioural battles.

By the end of our time together you will have the tools to handle any tricky situations that come your way and will be able to prepare for an incident before it happens and will be able to spot the signals your child gives you that a little storm may be brewing.

Will my baby cry?

A fear for parents when they think of sleep work is “Do I have to leave my baby crying?” 

NO! Definitely Not!!! This is not how I work, you will never leave your child to cry when you work with me. I NEVER get a parent to leave their child alone at bedtimes and there is never any crying to sleep while mum and dad hover in the hallway. 

I do not do Cry It Out or Controlled Crying. However I do not do No Cry either as a big part of the work that we will do together is learning how to understand and respond to your child's tears and emotional needs in a nurturing and loving way. Crying is a child’s natural and only way to get our attention and convey their feelings and needs so although there may be tears it will not be because their needs are not being met. A child cries, tantrums, laughs, and screams to communicate their big emotions about being a little child in a big word. It is how we respond to this that makes the difference. 

Do you use sleep training in your packages?

I do not believe that we need to “train” a child to do anything let alone sleep well.

Behavioural approaches do not fix a child’s core issues of disrupted sleep and difficult daytime behaviours, and so for this reason I do not do any form of training.

CC or CIO or any other form of training does not solve problems long term they are only a band aid fix.

Instead of “fixing” we look at what is behind the behaviours and from there sleep with fall into place without any need for training a child.

I work on empowering the parents and child to gain the confidence needed to sleep well and to sleep happily. There is no need to train that into a child, that comes from figuring out what makes sleep so hard or scary in the first place and then putting tools in place so that the child can feel good about any challenge! 

Is there an appropriate age to start sleep work?

Between 4-6 months, when your baby is developmentally ready, is the recommended age to start sleep work. I always strongly recommend checking with your doctor before beginning any sleep work with your child.

Do you work with co sleeping families?

Yes! Whether you want to change this sleeping situation or you love having your children in bed with you, but want to help them be a little less wriggly through the night, my work will support this.

What is a Sleep Consultant?

The role of a maternity and child sleep consultant is to empower clients by offering support and education in a non-biased fashion, tailored to meet the unique sleep needs of each individual family during pregnancy and postpartum. A sleep consultant is committed to advising their clients on their options, so that they can make informed choices.

What is a Postpartum Doula?

A Postpartum Doula’s primary role is to ‘mother the mother’ and to help a new family in those first few days and weeks at home with a new baby. 

A Postpartum Doula provides evidence-based information for your newborns care, such as infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from birth, mother-baby bonding and infant soothing. 

What is a Happiest Baby on the Block Educator?

A Happiest Baby on the Block Educator teaches new and expectant parents step by step how to soothe and calm their babies towards longer, lasting sleep. 

It’s based on extensive research from founder Dr Harvey Karp who, “has discovered the secrets for soothing colic, boosting infant sleep, reducing tantrums, promoting patience and making parents and children happy.”

What makes your approach different to others?

Traditional parenting approaches to sleep issues or a child’s bad “behaviours” often focus on using behavioural methods such as ignoring, soothing, punishing, distracting or reward systems.

These may work short term however the core issue still remains for the child. The key factor to cope with the difficult work of parenting in a fast faced world is to use tools that are based on connection, trust, fun and building confidence so that your child can thrive.

Currently there is only a small community of professionals and parents implementing these amazing parenting techniques and so by working with me you will be able to join them! 

You mention emotions a lot, why is that?

Because Little Children Have BIG Emotions and these emotions need to be heard!

Your child’s emotions are the huge hurdle to happy independent sleep and removing daytime battles. Once responded to appropriately your child emerges free from fear, happy, calm, cooperative and relaxed and therefore can sleep and live well.

What methods do you use?

I do not use methods such as CIO, CC, sleep training or behavioural methods but I am not a no cry sleep consultant either I am somewhere in the middle and the way I work means that we always put your child first, it is loving, gentle and looks at everything in your child’s world to help them feel calm, happy, secure and confident.

I work by empowering you with modern tools to enhance the parent-child connection and also show you how to handle all shows of emotions so that your child’s full scale of emotions can be processed and accepted. I will leave you with life long parenting tools that can be used long term not just in the short term for a “quick fix”.

A child must feel safe in regards to sleep and always know that their parents will always come to them when needed so by building the child’s confidence and trust by using play, connection and laughter we can gently remove the barriers that have been disrupting your child’s sleep.

I put together a plan that works for your family and your parenting style and most importantly your child.

From there you can all feel comfortable and confident to begin making changes and with my constant support you will reach your goals. 

We work with the foundations of healthy sleep first and that includes checking routines and schedules however this is based on the individual families needs. 

Once that is all in place we then work together on an emotional level to help figure out what is behind the sleep associations that your child needs in order to sleep.

What ages do you work with?

Newborn to 5 years. I also have a maternity package so that you can get organised with setting up healthy sleep habits for your new baby as soon as they arrive.

Premium Package
 4 weeks - $450

The content of these two packages are the same however the 6 week package gives you more support time to make the changes gradually. Parents who are sensitive, suffer from postnatal depression or are anxious about making changes find this package easier to deal with as it allows us to work at a slower pace. At times I will recommend the 6 week package to families if I recognise that their child may need some more time to build their confidence based on their needs and behaviours.

Although my packages are more expensive than others out there you will find that my exceptional support, unique methods and commitment to providing parents with understanding and tools to support their child’s behaviour and emotions that it is money well spent, after all you can’t put a price on your children’s health and wellbeing!

Both packages work on the Foundations of Healthy Sleep for your child with a strong focus on play, connection and understanding emotions. By working with your child’s emotional wellbeing it gives your child the confidence that they need to feel comfortable going to bed without anxiety or fear, this is the essential element’s to your child sleeping soundly.

INITIAL INTAKE

You’ll receive a detailed questionnaire for a thorough understanding of your child’s situation.

 

SKYPE CONSULT

A two hour Skype Consultation split over two days to discuss the Sleep Plan and how we are going to achieve your goals step by step
 

SLEEP PLAN

You’ll receive your unique Sleep Plan based on my assessment of your child’s sleep habits. It includes detail of our consultation, the steps forward for you and your family, supporting articles and research including scientific documents that helps to not only support your connection but to strengthen it as well. 

 

EMAIL AND SKYPE SUPPORT

From there we are in touch daily so that we can consistently monitor your child’s progress and adapt your plan accordingly including clarification emails for each step before you implement changes and also to go over your child’s sleeping habits over the previous 24 hours.
 

WRAP UP CONSULT

To complete your 4 or 6 week program we have a final Skype Consult to check that everything is falling into place and you will also receive a final wrap up document to make sure we continue to preserve all of the hard work we’ve accomplished over the length of your package

The Petite Package is for children who used to sleep really well but somehow something has become unstuck lately and sleep is rapidly unraveling.

This is a one-hour consultation and does not include a sleep plan or support however I will check in 2 weeks later to see how you are getting on.

If you would like notes and the basic outline of our conversation this is an additional $30

You can add on a week of support if you feel you would like me there for back up while you make the changes $70

We can’t thank you enough Lettie you have changed our lives!! Our little boy had some pretty big sleep associations and a very feisty temperament that had been causing us all to fee beyond exhausted and stressed for 18 months.
